James' first professional production was in David Mamet's aptly named A Life in the Theatre, since when he has appeared in over a 100 stage and film productions. He has toured extensively in Britain, Germany, Holland, Switzerland and Canada and has played leading roles in many of Shakespeare's plays. A selection of these includes: Macbeth, Iago, Romeo, Oberon, Orsino, Puck, Orlando, Edmund, Bassanio, Leontes, Petruchio and Laertes. He played Launcelot Gobbo in Der Kaufmann Von Venedig (The Merchant of Venice) - in German - at the ETA Hoffmann Theater, Bamberg. He has done CD voice work for Arkangel/ Penguin books (Cymbeline/ The Merry Wives of Windsor) and RSC/Pavilion books (The Young Person's Guide To Shakespeare), and a documentary on Twelfth Night for   Channel 4/ Open Hand Productions. He has appeared in a number of feature and short films, including: Dinner in Purgatory (as Machiavelli); thrillers Second Sight and Road to Nowhere; a futuristic cop in Bonnie and Bonnie and a dead animal reviving druid in Animal Rites! Last year James directed Romeo and Juliet for Rock Valley Productions at the Cheltenham Everyman Theatre and has directed all Rain or Shine Theatre Company productions to date. He is also an Associate Director of Traffic of the Stage TC for whom he is currently touring with Shakespeare Live! James recently adapted a new version of A Christmas Carol for the stage, which will be produced in the winter of 2009 by Rain or Shine.
